This year PAWS will award scholarships to six graduating seniors.   Essays must be submitted to the HHS College & Career Center (CCC) by March 19, 2010 at 2:00 pm -- NO EXCEPTIONS!

Winning students will be notified by the PAWS Scholarship Chairperson.   Scholarships will be sent directly to any type of continuing eduation school - vocational schools included.  

Each category has one $1,000 scholarship available.
Students may apply in more than one category, but can only win one scholarship.
Please fill out a separate application form for each category you enter.

Descriptions of the categories

Academics, Community Service, Fine Arts and the "Alyssa Shaffer Memorial Scholarship" for Athletics categories consider not only achievement in those areas, but also overall achievement in supporting the tradition of excellence at Horizon High School.

The "Greg Miller" Pride scholarship is awarded to the student who demonstrates overall achievement in a number of areas at Horizon High School.  In theory, this student could be presented as an ambassador for Horizon High School and therefore, truly demonstrates the “Pride of Horizon”.

The Comeback scholarship is awarded to the student who has turned his/her life around most dramatically in the face of adversity.


Essay Guidelines

(Essays should be no more than 2 pages typed, double spaced, 12 font)


Academics, Athletics, Community Service and Fine Arts: Describe why academics, athletics, community service or fine arts has made a difference for you in becoming a better individual today and how it will help you become a better citizen tomorrow.   Describe for us what other activities you are involved with outside of HHS -- what benefit you provided and how you have grown from the experience.

Pride: Based on the definition of the scholarship, describe why you are the student who best exemplifies Horizon Pride.  Describe for us what other activities you are involved with outside of HHS -- what benefit you provided and how you have grown from the experience.

Comeback: Describe the personal adversity you faced, your comeback, and what you have learned from the situation.  Describe for us what other activities you are involved with outside of HHS -- what benefit you provided and how you have grown from the experience.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE HORIZON BOOSTER CLUB SCHOLARHIP PROGRAM IS ADMINISTERED AND JUDGED BY MEMBERS OF THE HORIZON BOOSTER CLUB.   NO COUNSELOR OR ADMINISTRATOR HAS ANY INFLUENCE OR VOTING RIGHTS FOR THE SCHOLARSHIPS.   STUDENTS' NAMES ARE REMOVED FROM THE ESSAYS PRIOR TO PAWS JUDGING.
