ABOUT PAWS

PAWS, Parent Association Working for Our Students, is the Horizon High School Booster Club. We are the umbrella organization for 19 other parent groups at Horizon High School. These organizations represent many of the athletics, fine arts, and social organizations in our school. We offer these groups services that include:

• Scholarships for the current Senior Class, this year expected to be over $ 7,000.00!
• Teacher, Staff and Administration Breakfasts and Lunches
• Student/Family hardship assistance
• Prevention Programs; such as Not My Kid: Drug and Alcohol Programs, bullying prevention, and social media issues.

• Insurance for parent volunteers
• Grant opportunities for our booster clubs, staff, administration and teachers
• Publicity and promoting school community
• Special projects through the year for the school campus and grounds
• 501(c)3 status and use of our tax id for fundraising
• Combined tax return

Your support of PAWS helps us to continue to provide these services to our groups.

PAWS FOCUS

Communication /  Meaningful Parent Involvement / School Climate / Prevention Programs

Communication is through a weekly electronic newsletter and a website that supports both school and district information. We also send out a summer post card giving you instructions for Back-to-School links and deadlines.

Meaningful Parent Involvement includes offering volunteer opportunities like dance chaperones, bookstore volunteers, and nurse screenings, staff appreciation as just a few examples. Emails are sent out requesting volunteers for events and donations for staff appreciation; your response is completely voluntary based on your time or financial availability.

Our School Climate is how our school differs from other high schools in the district and statewide. It can have an effect on student behavior and the emotional wellbeing of the entire community. PAWS works to support the school and students to maintain a positive school climate that makes Horizon one of the most outstanding high schools in the nation.

Prevention Programs: The Horizon Prevention committee offers
• drug and alcohol programs
• bullying prevention
• and Did You Know informational emails
The group is constantly surveying parents, students and faculty to see what new information is needed, and the latest trends.

HOW WE GET THERE

PAWS has a one-time membership of $30 for the entire school year. You can join at any time, even on-line. With your membership, you receive a free gift to show your school spirit!

PAWS also accepts donations and we also have local and national companies that sponsor our booster club. Please see the Sponsorship page for information

PAWS holds a monthly meeting, typically on the first Wednesday of each month. Anyone can attend, and it’s a great opportunity to meet other Horizon parents and learn more about our school. Hope to see you at the next meeting!
